She toured with Kylie Minogue and reached the judges’ houses on X-Factor. Leeds-born singer-song writer, model and aspiring actress Lauren Green, 27, chats to Neil Hudson about chasing her dream
You were on X-Factor, tell us about that…
It was 2009 and I was already in a group called Project A, although we later changed the name to The Ultra Girls. Our audition song was Lady Gaga’s Just Dance. It was great to make it all the way to the judge’s houses. I still keep in touch with people there and was asked back this year as part of a tribute act I am with called the Spicy Girls to perform for Andreas in Leicester Square, London.
What’s Kylie like?
She’s so lovely and genuine. She will chat back stage with the dancers and whenever you see her she’s just polite and really nice. When we were first told we had the chance to tour UK arenas with Kylie, we were all just gobsmacked for about ten minutes. Kylie let us perform about five of our own tracks before she came on. It was a wonderful experience.
What’s your earliest memory?
Being on holiday in Spain with my family. I was still quite young and still in my pram. We were out eating and I fell asleep face down in my pizza.
If you could pass a new law, what would it be and why?
That everyone had to do something that made them laugh at least once everyday, laughing heals the soul.
What would you like to consign to room 101?
Probably spiders. I’m trying to grow to love them but I don’t think it’s going to happen soon.
When are you happiest?
When I’m performing on stage, writing songs or surrounded by my family. I’ve played lots of arenas in the UK, including the 02, which was amazing. I’ve also played in New Delhi (twice), Oman and Singapore. At the moment, I am kind of my own manager, so when I go to bed at night I end up making all kinds of lists of things to do the next day.
If your house was burning down and you could rescue three things, what would they be?
Photo albums, memory boxes and the hard drive - gotta save those memories!
What would your super power be and why?
To click my fingers and have things appear or transport me to places - that way I’d always be on time (I’m never late, honest), a bit like Sabrina the Teenage Witch, who was definitely a childhood hero.
What would you most like to achieve in life and why?
Id love the chance to perform my own songs on tour. I’m writing songs and while I’d love to perform them, it would also be great to see a Jessie J or someone like that do them too. I do several tribute acts, including Beyonce, Cheryl, Katy Perry and Rihanna. I also sing at weddings, I do some modelling, catwalk and I’m getting my website ready: www.laurengreenofficial.co.uk
