Leeds Crown Court was told 24-year-old Georgina Hall assaulted prison officer Kelly Steir at New Hall women's prison at Flockton, Wakefield.

Prosecutor, Philip Morris said Miss Steir was escorting Hall to a meeting with the prison governor when she was assaulted on April 15.

The court heard Hall was on report because she had refused to leave her cell as she was unhappy that an inmate she had a close relationship with was being moved to a different part of the prison.

Mr Morris said Hall headbutted Miss Steir in a corridor, causing her to fall to the floor. Mr Morris said: "Miss Steir was found to be suffering from concussion. She had a cut to her left eye, which required a number of steri strips. The cut has resulted in a visible scar."

Hall, who has 14 previous convictions for 27 offences, was serving a four-year prison sentence for attempted robbery at the time of the attack.

Miss Steir wrote In a victim statement which was read to the court: "When I returned to the wing where the assault took place I tried to look brave, but instead I was a shivering wreck,

unable to challenge prisoners for fear I would get assaulted again."

Hall, who has since been moved to HMP Peterborough, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.

Mitigating, Richard Sheldon said: "This defendant takes full responsibility for the offence she committed."

Recorder Kate Tulk sentenced Hall to an eight-month jail term to start after the sentence she is currently serving ends.

Recorder Tulk told Hall: "She is going to have permanent facial scarring as a result of your behaviour."
