Pret to dish up food for Leeds homeless

A national food chain which has opened in Trinity Leeds is on the look out for local charities to which it can donate unsold food at the end of the day.

Coffee shop brand Pret A Manger, which has been in Leeds for 20 years, opened a new 2,076 sq ft store on the shopping centre’s first floor last Thursday and the pledge is part of the chain’s commitment to help alleviate the pressures of homelessness in the UK having already distributed more than 3m food items to hostels and shelters across the country.

Juanita Cracchiolo, Pret Foundation Trust Project Manager, said: “We’re currently looking for local charities to support through food donations each night and would love to be contacted by any organisations who feel they could benefit from collecting fresh, unsold food from us in the evenings.”

Pret was joined in the Trinity the following day by a Greek street food trader which had made its debut in Trinity Kitchen last year.

Following a successful stint, MELI PatisseNerie now has a permanent kiosk on the ground floor of the centre, outside H&M and Carphone Warehouse featuring Greek delights including cakes, savoury pastries, mini ices and ice cream, teas and coffee.

Dan Wharton, Marketing Manager at Trinity Leeds said: “We are delighted to see MELI Patisserie returning following its success at Trinity Kitchen and the opening of both retailers will continue to improve our food offering at the centre.”
