Ofsted said St Botolph’s CofE Academy, in Knottingley, is making significant strides towards improvements.

The latest Section 8 monitoring inspection by the education watchdog comes after the school was rated as “Inadequate” and placed in special measures in June, 2016.

But in a newly-published report this week, Ofsted praised school leaders for taking action to rectify issues found at its last inspection.

The report said: “The inspection was the first monitoring inspection since the school became subject to special measures following the inspection that took place in May 2016.

“Leaders and managers are taking effective action towards the removal of special measures. The trust’s statement of action is fit for purpose.

“The school’s action plan is fit for purpose.”

As a result of the action taken by the school, Ofsted has now allowed it to appoint newly-qualified teachers, which it previously could not while deemed to be under special measures by the watchdog.

Acting principal Donna Adams said: “We are absolutely delighted that the inspector has noticed the significant improvements that have taken place in a short space of time.

“It is a great school. We are very pleased with the way the school has changed and moving forward our priority is always in improving outcomes for our pupils.”

Mrs Adams was appointed in the acting principal role in September, after the school’s previous inspection.

Ofsted previously criticised consistency of teaching, school leadership, pupils’ behaviour and a failure to address weak progress at the June inspection.
