A POPULAR bar in Leeds has shut its doors just eight months after opening.

The YEP understands The Woods in Chapel Allerton has closed temporarily after an alleged dispute with staff.

The venue on Stainbeck Lane opened in July 2014 as a bar, restaurant and cinema that also offered family-friendly events.

It took over the former Hummingbird venue, which closed in 2013. Prior to that, it was known as The Angel’s Share.

The YEP understands staff at The Woods walked out en masse following a reported dispute over pay and conditions.

A former member of staff, who did not want to be named, said the venue employed around 18 people. They added: “We are all very close at The Woods. People are worrying because they are out of a job.”

The former staff member also alleged that a number of workers had not been paid for some time.

The YEP tried to contact The Woods’ management but did not receive a reply for comment.

However, posts taken from The Woods’ Twitter account said: “All staff that have been made redundant, as a result of our temporary closure, will most definitely be paid in full.”

It added: “We are still going to trade The Woods. We understand the frustration but have employed the very best professionals to assist.

“I am glad to state that The Woods is alive and kicking. It has been a tough personal time and we look forward to your support.”
