Pontefract fatal crash - driver named

Police have named a driver who died after a road smash in Pontefract on Sunday.

Mark Stephens, 39, of Eggborough near Knottingley suffered fatal injuries when the Peugeot he was driving careered off Knottingley Road and hit a lamp post just after 1pm.

Mr Stephens was taken by ambulance to Pontefract General Infirmary where he was later pronounced dead. He travelling from Pontefract towards Knottingley when the accident happened.

Witnesses should contact West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team on 0845 6060606.

* Police have not yet named a pedestrian in his 50s who died after he was hit by a car in Ferrybridge just before 11.30pm on Boxing Day.
