a renewed ‘hybrid’ planning application for a new Lidl store and pub at the former Miami building site in Leeds is set for approval next week.

Outline permssion has already been granted for a supermarket at land in Lotherton Way, Garforth.

Full permission is now being sought for a Lidl store, however it will be smaller than was previously expected.

A report to be considered by Leeds City Council’s North and East Plans Panel next week says: “The Lidl store is substantially smaller than the supermarket permission already granted.

“Outline permission is also sought for additional retail units and a public house to occupy the remainder of the site.”

Locals have written 13 letters of objection, citing traffic issues amongst others.

Officers conclude that despite the acknowledged congestion problems, the “design and amenity impacts of the food store are...acceptable in principle”.
