Pudsey Tory MP Stuart Andrew told Twitter users he was OK after he was allegedly assaulted during a brawl in a parliamentary bar.

Mr Andrew was thought to be the main victim of an alleged assault by Labour MP Eric Joyce at a bar in the House of Commons on Wednesday night. The Falkirk MP was arrested on suspicion of assault and detained by police.

Yesterday he was suspended by the Labour Party with speaker John Bercow commenting in the Commons: “I have been informed by the Serjeant at Arms that the honourable member for Falkirk has been detained in police custody. I take this matter very seriously.”

In response to enquiries asking how he was, Mr Andrew tweeted: “Thank you, I am OK.”

His spokeswoman Liz Harwood confirmed to the YEP that he is “expecting to forward charges” to police.
