Leeds council ward boundaries to undergo shake-up after review...but city will keep its 99 councillors

A proposed shake-up of Leeds's council boundaries will see the authority keep to its previous 99 councillor and 33 ward structure.

However neighbourhoods across the city will see their ward boundaries change after the publication of the Independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England’s final recommendations for new electoral arrangements.

It follows public consultation on the draft proposals last year and draws new boundaries for each council ward across Leeds.

Sir Tony Redmond, deputy chair of the Commission, said: “We are extremely grateful to people across Leeds who took part in the review. We believe these recommendations deliver electoral fairness for voters as well as reflecting community ties throughout Leeds.”

Among the key changes, Bramley Shopping Centre is now included in Bramley and Stanningley ward rather than Armley as previously suggested.

The Varley Street and Richardshaw Road areas will now be part of the Pudsey ward rather than Calverley & Farsley ward.

In the south-west of the city, the Woodlands Drive area will now be included in the Middleton Park ward rather than the Ardsley & Robin Hood area.

Full details of the final recommendations are available on the Local Government Boundary Commission’s website at www.lgbce.org.uk.
