But Leeds City Council has reminded today’s A-level recipients to continue socially distancing in line with government guidelines, as thousands of teenagers across the city are expected to receive their results today.

The authority also confirmed it would not be releasing expected A-level results as it had in previous years, as the Department for Education is not issuing performance tables and Ofsted are not using them to inform inspections.

Some schools in Leeds are expected to have the traditional opening of A-level results in person, while others are expected to send results by email.

A council statement read: “Schools have chosen to give pupils their results in different ways. Some will receive them by email, but will also be made aware of whom they can contact in school if they have any issues. Other schools have made appointments for pupils to come and collect their results individually.”

A Leeds City Council spokesperson added: “Congratulations to all students who received their results today in incredibly challenging circumstances. If you are planning any celebrations, please ensure they are in line with government guidelines and social distancing is observed.”

It follows warnings from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), which claimed those in the district holding A-level results parties would be handed fines for house parties and illegal gatherings.

Assistant Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Nick Bailey said: “I understand that A-level results are coming out this week and people will rightly want to celebrate.

“However, please be mindful of the covid regulations in your celebrations as we do not want to spoil what should be a joyous occasion by issuing FPNs (fixed penalty notices) at any house parties or illegal gatherings.”
