Leeds City Council bins: Everything you need to know as tips and collections set to resume

After the city went into lockdown, the council closed all tips and suspended brown bin collections.
But there are now plans to resume key services by the end of May.
Here is everything you need to know about the changes:
Green and black bins

Hide AdGreen and black bins have been collected as normal throughout lockdown.
The council has praised its bin crews for their 'amazing work' in keeping collections running, despite reduced staff numbers.
Garden waste (brown bins)
After lockdown was announced on March 23, Leeds Council suspended the collection of brown bins.
Collection remains suspended for now, but the council has announced plans to resume brown bin collection later this month.

Hide AdCollection is scheduled to resume on Monday, May 25, but this is subject to change.
Household waste and recycling centres
The closure of all tips and recycling centres in Leeds was announced on March 23.
Glass recycling bins are still being emptied and you are permitted to visit them as part of your daily exercises or essential shopping trip.
Leeds tips are now expected to reopen next week - subject to further details from the Government regarding lockdown measures,

Hide AdBut there will be a strict booking system in place in order to keep numbers at manageable levels.
Unwanted item collections
The council stopped taking unwanted item collections when lockdown measures were introduced.
But bulky waste collections are expected to resume - free of charge - by the end of the month.
Leeds Council will make a final decision on the date collections will resume 'shortly'.
Public litter bins

Hide AdLitter bins have not been emptied during lockdown and many public bins have been taped over to prevent their use.
The council has also reduced street cleaning activities such as litter picking and sweeping.
It is expected that the collection of public litter bins will resume once lockdown measures are relaxed.
