Road works are due to take place in Otley during the next month in preparation for the Tour de France.

Sections of Bradford Road, Ilkley Road, Piper Lane, Westgate, Cross Green and Billams Hill will be resurfaced between next Monday and March 14.

Most of the work will be carried out between 9am and 3pm Mondays to Thursdays to avoid disruption on the main market days at the weekend.

Cyclists will ride through Otley during the Grand Depart on Saturday, July 5.

Richard Lewis, Leeds City Council’s executive board member for the economy and development said it was a “once in a lifetime” event – and called for the public’s patience.

He said: “We have done our utmost to make sure this essential work is carried out at times that would cause the least disruption.

“This is a significant scheme of work undertaken in a short time frame to accommodate the Tour de France, which will be passing through Otley in July.

“It is set to be a once in a lifetime opportunity for Leeds and we’re asking residents to bear with us as we carry out these works to ensure the Tour runs as smoothly as possible.”
