WANTED: Escaped prisoner Daniel Brown.

POLICE swarmed over a Leeds community yesterday after a sighting of an escaped prisoner.

Officers looking for Daniel Brown contained an area of open ground near Butt Lane in Farnley following the sighting.

Extensive searches were carried out with the assistance of the police helicopter but Brown could not be located.

Lower Wortley Primary School issued a tweet saying it was in “lockdown” during the operation while the gates of Farnley Academy were also closed as a precautionary measure.

West Yorkshire Police advised people to “continue with daily life” while the search took place, saying there was “no risk to the community”.

Brown, 22, has been on the run since last Wednesday, June 14, when he managed to get away from officers who were escorting him to a police van outside St James’s Hospital, where he had been taken for treatment.

He had been arrested the previous day after being named as wanted for recall to prison following his release in March from an 18-month sentence for possessing an imitation firearm.
