Police seek witnesses after trio tried to catch swan with fishing pole

Police are investigating reports of three men trying to catch a swan on the canal in Leeds.

The trio were said to be trying use a five foot fishing pole in an attempt to catch the swan on the Aire and Calder Navigation yesterday afternoon.

As native wild birds, swans are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and it is an offence to intentionally injure, take or kill a wild swan.

Officers from the Leeds are now seeking witnesses to the incident as part of their enquiries.

They what to speak to anyone who saw the incident, which took place between Woodlesford Lock and Fish Pond Lock.
