Police issue parking fines outside Leeds school in blitz on problem parking parents

Police in Leeds have been visiting schools to conduct 'parking patrols'.

Parents found to be causing an obstruction - like this white Mercedes - have been slapped with fixed penalty notices.

Two vehicles were hit with fines in the Morley policing ward; one on Upper Green Way near Westerton Primary school, for causing an obstruction.

The Highway Code says drivers are not allowed to park near to the entrance of a school and must befurther than 32 feet from a junction when parked.

The DVLA advice says:"DO NOT stop or park:

- near a school entrance

- anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services

- at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank

- on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing

- opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space

- in front of an entrance to a property

- on a bend

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "Officers from Morley have been visiting schools this week for school parking patrols.

"This vehicle and another was issued with a fixed penalty notice on Upper Green Way near Westerton Primary for causing an obstruction.

"Please remember to park safely and with consideration for the safety of the children and everyone else, keeping junctions, driveways and pavements clear."
