Police hunt hooded attacker who targeted woman by Leeds canal

A woman bravely fought off a hooded attacker who set upon her near a canal in Leeds today.

The 40-year-old woman was walking down some steps towards the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Rodley at about 8.20am when she was grabbed by the man.

He dragged her to the ground but after a struggle fled the scene on foot in the direction of Rodley roundabout.

Detectives believe that, a few minutes beforehand, the same man had approached another woman, aged in her 20s.

Extra police patrols have been mounted in the area around the A6120 Leeds Outer Ring Road.

The man is described as black, in his late teens, about 5ft 6in and of medium build.

He was wearing grey jogging bottoms and a khaki green or grey jacket with the hood pulled up.

Leeds District CID’s Det Insp Phil Jackson said: “This was a very frightening incident for the victim, who was thankfully unhurt.

“Officers are continuing to search for this male, who we believe approached a woman in her 20s a few minutes earlier.

“He is thought to have headed back up the ring road towards Rodley roundabout and then right into Oaklands Road before doubling back onto Bagley Lane.”
