A TEAM of specialist police divers today started a search of the River Calder in Wakefield for a father-of-two who has been missing from home for more than a month.

The underwater search was launched in the river close to Wakefield city centre after police appeals for information to trace 32-year-old Damion Vernon failed to provide any leads.

Mr Vernon, 32, drove to Wakefield from his home in Bridlington on Monday December 8.

Police say he left his blue Vauxhall Corsa, registration number YH51 FLL, parked on Sycamore Street later that day.

Detectives say he then walked along an alleyway off Sycamore Street, which is close to the River Calder.

He was reported missing the following day.
