Leeds’ pop star Mel B added some extra spice as communities across the city joined together for a weekend of fun.
Hundreds of people celebrated the city’s rich culture as they enjoyed music and food at the Hyde Park Unity Day on Saturday. Held annually, the event includes live performances, impressive dance routines and food and drink stalls at Woodhouse Moor.
And this year, there was a surprise visit as former Spice Girl Mel B, from Harehills, greeted fans on Unity Day.
The singer and TV personality was spotted on the streets of Leeds, along with her daughter Phoenix, as she volunteered to help with proceedings on Saturday.
She said on Twitter: “Yessssss [Phoenix] doing volunteering work in my home town #LeedsLeedsLeeds for #unitydayhydepark”.
Meanwhile, dogs of all shapes and sizes displayed their canine credentials in Pudsey for the city’s annual Puppy in the Park gathering.
The pooch-friendly event, held yesterday, featured children’s activities and the ever-popular dog show classes.
From Waggiest Tail to Scruffiest Mut, there were nine different classes for those who wanted to prove they had what it takes to be named the best in show. Other judged show accolades awarded included Best Groomed, Best Trick, Best Young Handler and the Best In Show finale.
West Yorkshire Police, a fire engine and a guide dog stall also pitched up at the event which attracted hundreds of visitors.
