The temple was created at the former Cliff Lawn Hotel in 2015 and is currently home to five Buddhist monks.

The monks teach meditation and mindfulness.

Buddhist monk Venerable Napan Thawoernbanjob, who moved to Leeds from Thailand in July 2016, said: “I love the diversity of people here. People seem to respect and learn from each other.”

He added: “People approach me and speak to me quite often when I walk past Hyde Park.”

Monks from the Wat Buddharam Temple visited Leeds City Museum’s Voices of Asia gallery in December after a new exhibition was launched exploring the ancient history of the Buddhist faith.
