More than 1,000 people have signed a petition calling for a mountain bike trail centre to be built at Middleton Park.

The petition was started several months ago by Rothwell Cycles-Repairs but a flurry of interest in recent days has seen sign ups reach four figures.

The web petition page reads: “It will be great for local cyclists as well as cyclists from further afield. It has great access unlike some trail centres and will help the Leeds economy.”

The target for sign ups is 1,500.
