The Leeds community rallied together after Rico went missing from Armley in June 2019 - with hundreds joining a Facebook group to help with the search.

After many months, hopes of ever finding German Shepherd Rico were waning and little progress had been made during lockdown.

Despite the valiant effort of the Leeds residents, the location of Rico was never discovered.

However in a miraculous turn of events, Natasha Jones opened her front door last night (August 28) to find Rico standing on the doorstep.

Even though Natasha said Rico was 'a bit overweight', he is otherwise the same dog who went missing in 2019.

Natasha said she 'never gave up hope' of finding Rico and kept all of his toys.

She told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I was so shocked and excited.

"He has got a collar on which he didn't have and is a bit overweight but apart from that, he is Rico.

"Someone knocked on the door and closed the gate behind them, he was on the doorstep.

"My dog Millie was excited to see him too... they had a little romance before!"

More than 600 Leeds residents joined the Facebook group set up in summer 2019 after Rico went missing.

They shared their astonishment at his return last night.

A total of more than 1000 people sent their congratulations to Rico's owners.
