A total of 57 staff members took part in the virtual Great Roundhay Run on Saturday September 19.

Runners could not take part together due to Covid-19 restrictions so teachers each devised and ran their own routes.

Each runner completed either a 5k, 10k or 21k run to raise cash for a gofundme appeal to buy food parcels for local families struggling financially.

The school community has donated large amounts of food after an appeal was launched earlier in the summer.

Roundhay School staff have been delivering more than 100 food parcels each week to families in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

The school has around 2,500 pupils from the Roundhay, Chapeltown and Harehills areas of the city.

School head Mathew Partington, who ran 21k on Saturday, said: "A lot of our students and families are really struggling during the current circumstances and we want to support them.

"I think The Great Roundhay Run is absolutely fantastic. I'm so proud of our staff and community for stepping up in this way."
