Power cut in nearly 300 north Leeds homes as residents faced with no electricity for eight hours

Nearly 300 homes in Leeds have been hit by a power cut this morning.

Northern Powergrid has reported a major outage in LS12 and LS13, with 130 homes left without electricity since 6am.

The power cut has been caused by an unexpected problem with an electricity cable in the area.

Engineers are working to solve the problem but cannot yet estimate when power will be turned back on.

A major power cut has also been reported in LS16, with 140 homes left without power.

This has also been caused by a problem with an electricity cable and was reported at 6.20am.

Northern Powergrid expect power to be restored in these homes by 2pm.

A further 10 homes in LS17 have also been affected, with a power cut reported at 8am.

Northern Powergrid said: "Our team are working hard to restore your power as quickly as possible."
