Choosing who should receive one of our Christmas Honours is never an easy task when we have the privilege of telling our readers about inspiring individuals from all walks of life every day - from children taking on charity challenges and community volunteers raising spirits, to campaigners striving to make our city a better place and sports stars inspiring others both on and off the field.
Today we name the 12 individuals and groups receiving the YEP's 2020 Christmas Honours as we thank them for all that they have done to make a difference to the lives of others:
1. Noah Bullock
Noah took part in a fundraising bike ride to say thank-you to the Leeds hospital team which saved his baby brother’s life
2. Jo Heywood
Jo organised a drive-by Santa and the elves experience for local residents after her pub was forced to close due to Covid
3. Katrina Slater
Katrina Slater helped organise a meeting which called for more action to end the anti-social behaviour problem which is blighting the community in Cross Gates
4. Nick Pearson and Lauren Rooney
The couple have launched a 3D printing production line from their home to manufacture hundreds of face shields for the NHS
This honour is shared with all those across Leeds who have been part of the national effort to protect our NHS
5. Leeds United
For successes on the pitch that saw the Whites promoted to the Premier League and the way they act as role models for others, whether giving up a share of their salaries to fund club staff wages or setting aside sporting rivalries to back Marcus Rashford's child poverty campaign.
6. Chris Dyson
Chris agreed to open up his school's kitchens so food could be prepared for those in need across the city in the event of a coronavirus shutdown
Headteacher Chris shares this honour with all the teachers and school staff throughout Leeds.
