Its doors will be open for four hours every week, in which food is without charge for anyone who is in need.

Food will be served for the homeless between 6pm and 10pm every Sunday.

It comes after Leeds City Council defended its decision to serve a humanitarian aid camp for the homeless with a temporary ban.

Tent city camp organiser David Hedley said he was devastated to get a notice informing him the authority had applied for an injunction on the camp, after it pitched up for ten days at the former International Pool site.

The purpose of the camp is to provide hot meals, medical care and housing advice and support for anyone sleeping rough in the city.

In a statement, Leeds City Council said: “Support is available to everyone that chooses to accept it, which includes the offer of accommodation on a night and in the long-term, which for a variety of reasons, are not always accepted by everyone."
