Leeds New Year's Eve and Day events 2020: How you can celebrate the New Year under Covid Tier 3 restrictions

Medical staff are urging people not to host or attend parties, or mix with other people on New Year’s Eve, as Covid hospitalisations hit a record high.

A&E doctors are particularly concerned about what January and February will hold for hospitals if infections and hospitalisations continue to rise at the rate they are currently, or potentially even more rapidly, driven by more household mixing over the New Year.

Here are the Covid safe New Year's Eve and New Year's Day events happening for people in the city:

Harewood House - Outdoor Christmas

The wonderful Christmas Outdoors at Harewood is beautifully lit and festively decorated for all to enjoy. It includes walks, hot drinks, gift shops and a visit to the bird garden.

Tickets range from £6.50 to £32 depending on who is visiting.

When? All day on December 31 and January 1.

Crossover 2021 - New Year's Eve Service

An end of year service to welcome the New Year "as a family in Christ."

This is a free event.

When? 9pm on December 31 to 12am on January 1.

New Year's Eve Superhero Yoga Flow

A dynamic, challenging (but all-levels) yoga flow. Expect to get warm, mobilise joints, increase the heart rate, challenge yourself, and smile... before cooling down with some delicious Yin and Restorative poses and ending with a meditation about letting go of anything that you want to leave in 2020, and setting intentions to cultivate self-compassion in 2021.

Tickets are between £5 and £7.50.

What are the Tier 3 restrictions which are limiting the New Year's celebrations in Leeds?

- Household mixing is banned anywhere indoors

- Two households can mix in limited circumstances in parks and fields, but only if observing the rule of six

- Non essential shops can open

- Personal care and close contact services such as hairdressers and barbers, beauty salons, tattoo parlours, nail salons, spas and beauty services, saunas, steam rooms, massage parlours and tanning salons can remain open

- Pubs, bars and restaurants cannot open their doors - they must operate for collection and delivery only

- People in Tier 3 are advised not to travel outside their area

- Hotels must close and overnight stays outside the local area are not permitted

- Wedding receptions are banned in Tier 3 areas but ceremonies can go ahead with 15 guests

- Funerals will allow up to 30 guests only

- Large sport events are banned from taking place but drive-in events like drive-in cinemas will be allowed
