Leeds care home marks Queen's birthday with cake fit for royalty

Residents at a Leeds care home designed a cake fit for a queen to mark the monarch's 95 birthday this week.

Cookridge Court Care Home residents helped design a birthday cake in honour of Her Majesty's birthday on June 13.

The fruit-topped cake was whipped into reality by the home's chef Lindsay Thewliss and enjoyed by residents and staff on the Queen's special day.

It will now be entered into a national contest run by the home's owners, Barchester Healthcare, who tasked all of its homes to design a cake, with a top prize of food vouchers.

Cookridge's manager Karen Francis said: “Residents absolutely loved the idea of having their cake brought to life, and were very happy to celebrate our longest reigning monarch.

"Here at Cookridge we are continually adapting, and finding new ways to make sure every effort is focused on creating an enjoyable environment for all of our residents, whilst adhering to social distancing advice.”
