Channel 4 to sponsor Leeds Sports Awards 2020

Channel 4  has been announced as a major sponsor  of the Leeds Sports Awards 2020.

The 17th annual Leeds Sports Awards will return to the First Direct Arena on Thursday February 27.

Sport Leeds said Channel 4 will be sponsoring three of the most prestigious awards at the awards; Senior Sportsman, Senior Sportswoman and Coach – Performance.

They will be joining existing sponsors LeedsBID, Leeds City College, Leeds Trinity University, BOX Leeds and Hudgell Solicitors

Channel 4 has already made a huge impact on Leeds with their decision to open a base in the heart of the city, choosing Leeds over both Birmingham and Manchester.

Work is underway to renovate the former Majestic building near city square for Channel 4.

Pete Andrews, head of sport at Channel 4, said: "Channel 4 are delighted to have a base in such a vibrant sporting city as Leeds.

"This is especially exciting for me as head of sport at Channel 4 and we are really thrilled to be involved in this great event that celebrates the very best of the sporting year in the city and surrounding area."

Peter Smith, chair of Sport Leeds, said: "Having Channel 4 on board as a sponsor for 2020 really shows their intent to support the city and the importance of the Leeds Sports Awards.

"We are very pleased to have their support as we continue to grow the awards year on year and this certainly adds to the prestige of the event.

Leeds-based creative agency Banana Kick have been involved with Leeds Sports Awards for eight years and have been working Channel 4 to agree the sponsorship for 2020.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2020 event.
