The NHS fundraising hero lived with Hannah, her husband Colin Ingram, and their children Benji and Georgia in Marston Moretaine in Bedfordshire.

Hannah is a business recruitment officer, managing her own company, Maytrix, which has a focus on recruitment, brand development and training for companies.

She was the one who floated the idea that her father walk round the garden to celebrate his 100th birthday.

Lucy, a mum of two, lives in Reading.

She runs her own business in homeopathy, which she took up after the death of her mother in 2006.

After Captain Tom completed his feat during the first nationwide lockdown and raised millions for the NHS, Lucy said she “can’t believe what has happened”.

Speaking to the BBC, she said at the time: "My heart is bursting. Well done, Daddy.

"I'm having to get used to the thought of sharing you with millions and millions of people.”

Captain Tom tested positive for coronavirus on 22 January, after he returned home from hospital where he was suffering from pneumonia.

A statement released on behalf of the family following his death in Bedford Hospital said his daughter Hannah and her children remained by his side until he passed away, while Lucy was able to talk to him on FaceTime.

How many grandchildren does Captain Tom have?

Captain Tom has four grandchildren, two of which he lived with after moving in with his daughter Hannah and his son-in-law Colin.

Speaking about his grandkids on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, Captain Tom struggled to contain his emotion as he said: "I've got four grandchildren, and what more could you ask for than that."

Benjamin Ingram-Moore, 16, who is Hannah’s son, was the person who maintained Captain Tom’s social media page as he completed his fundraising feat.

He also won the Rising Star accolade in the 2020 Independent School of the Year awards for helping his grandfather to raise millions of pounds for the NHS.

Max Teixeira, 19, who is Lucy’s son, said of Captain Tom’s incredible achievement: "We're just shocked and proud of him beyond belief."

Why was the family trolled after visiting Barbados?

The family jetted off to Barbados shortly before Christmas, which Captain Tom said was his “life-long dream”.

The trip was arranged by British Airways and Visit Barbados to thank the war veteran for his fundraising achievement.

Piers Morgan recently hit out at critics of the holiday, which happened before strict travel restrictions were introduced in the UK, saying the comments had hurt Captain Tom’s family.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast on 17 February, Ms Ingram-Moore spoke about some of the internet trolling the family had received after they took the trip.

She called it the “holiday of a lifetime” for Captain Tom, saying he sat outside reading novels, newspapers and eating fish on the beach.

However, the family had to “shelter” the war veteran from the negativity they received after the holiday.

Ms Ingram-Moore said: “I think we accept that whatever we do somebody won't like it and there was outrageous negativity and yet we realised we had to shelter him from that.

"It came in its thickest and fastest when we were already realising he was not very well and that's what triggered it. It felt so grossly unfair.

"What do you do with it, though? We had to put it away and say those people who say those terrible things they have no idea how hurtful they are being obviously otherwise they wouldn't do it.

"They have no idea what we are going through as a family and so we shut it away but it just added a little more pain to the pain that we were going through."

“The last year of our father’s life was nothing short of remarkable. He was rejuvenated and experienced things he’d only ever dreamed of.

“Whilst he’d been in so many hearts for just a short time, he was an incredible father and grandfather, and he will stay alive in our hearts forever.

“The care our father received from the NHS and carers over the last few weeks and years of his life has been extraordinary.

"They have been unfalteringly professional, kind and compassionate and have given us many more years with him than we ever would have imagined.

“Over the past few days our father spoke a great deal about the last 12 months and how proud he felt at being able to leave behind the growing legacy of his Foundation.

“We politely ask for privacy at this time so we can grieve quietly as a family and remember the wonderful 100 years our father had.”

“Thank you.”
