Amazing pictures of Leeds bus stop on The Headrow transformed by street artist

Benjamin Craven, a full time artist from Headingley, was commissioned by Leeds Council to turn the temporary bus stop into a colourful artwork.

The 26-year-old spent two long, cold nights working to transform the temporary bus stop - which will be in place until the £20m Headrow construction project is finished.

Benjamin, who currently works at the Aire Street Workshop, said that he wanted to bring a bit of "brightness" to the city centre street.

He said: "We worked from midnight until 5am for two freezing nights in February, so the process of recreating the bus stop was not fun at all.

"However, once we saw it in the day time and people using it it was all worthwhile.

"I wanted it to be bright and colourful as usually those bus stops are grim and boring. I wanted to spruce it up a bit."

He added: "It is kind of strange as it sort of looks like they are standing within my art work.

"It's like two opposites - the boring reality of standing at a bus stop waiting for a bus that seems to never come contrasted with the bright, colourful art."

The bus stop is designed in geometric lines and shapes, with clashing colours and textures.

It is a design that has become a signature style for the artist, who has also created murals at Leeds Dock and Headrow House.

Benjamin said that reaction from the community to The Headrow bus stop has been "amazing."

He said: "I was quite surprised at how much people have loved it.

"The reception has been amazing.

"People have been sharing it on social media and saying the bus stops should be painted permanently.

"I think people like seeing the art in their every day.

"If it's made one person either smile or smirk then I'm happy."
