It was a Halloween party at the actual Playboy Mansion that inspired the latest bar to open in Leeds.

And while there are lap-dancers, think the best of 70s style partying with grand gestures, extravagant decor and super slick drinks and you will be well on your way to Whiskey Down.

It is the new venture from Tokyo Industries which has a portfolio of 32 bars and clubs up and down the country.

Whiskey Down has opened on the top two floors of what was the legendary Townhouse nightclub off Call Lane.

Stocking more than 100 types of the hard stuff in the ‘Whiskey Lounge’ there is a pentehouse suite and on the ground floor there are plans for a street food market next year.

Aaron Mellor, managing director of Tokyo Industries said: “Two years ago I was doing some work with hotels in LA and got invited to Hugh Hefner’s Halloween party. I was walking around the Playboy Mansion and it looks back to the 70s era and that country house mansion and a spirit that had been lost.

“I just felt there was an opportunity to do something different and create that whole idea of a gentleman’s club. I wanted it to be salubrious, amazing and relaxing. Not about high volume drinking but wing backed chairs, Chesterfield sofas and the type of place James Bond would go if he had a Leeds postcode.”

It coincided with plans to bring TownHouse, the club to be seen at in Leeds during the 90s back to life. But another firm having trouble getting a licence and a council steer to make Call Lane more sociable led to the latest project.

There are more than 100 types of whiskey from £7 - £35 per shot, including one bottle of whiskey valued at £10,000, the equivalent of £400 per 25ml shot plus gin and champagne.

Hefner would approve.
