Pair rescued by firefighters after car smashes through garage door and wall

An elderly motorist came a cropper when he hit accelerate instead of brake as he parked his car in his garage in West Yorkshire.

The man’s BMW first smashed through the door of the garage and then its back wall before coming to a halt in his garden on The Orchard, off Carleton Road in Pontefract.

Fire crews were called to the scene of the incident at about 6.45pm today and freed the driver and an elderly female passenger from the car.

They were said to be shaken up by their experience but not seriously hurt.

Crews from Pontefract and Castleford attended the incident.
