TWO Leeds restaurateurs have picked up a top business award.

Red’s True Barbecue co-founders, James Douglas and Scott Munro, have been recognised in the Yorkshire Business Insider Entrepreneur Awards 2014.

The first-time restaurateurs picked up the 42 Under 42 Rising Star of the Year award for their authentic American barbecue concept.

Red’s True Barbecue has one venue at Cloth Hall Street near the Corn Exchange in Leeds and another in Manchester.

The business sells 40 tonnes of meat to over 35,000 customers each month.

James Douglas, said: “Scott and I are delighted to be recognised in this year’s awards.

“We came into this business with no sector experience whatsoever and created a highly successful business, which is rapidly growing at scale.”

He added: “We’re not blinkered by the conventions of the industry, we do what feels right, and more often than not, it pays off.”

Two more Red’s True Barbecue venues are due to launch this year.
