Leeds’ own Kayleigh Manners has spoken of the “heartbreaking” moment her X-Factor dreams were shattered.

The talented singer-songwriter from Harehills was kicked off the ITV talent show on Friday night, during the new “six-chair challenge”.

Judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini told the 23-year-old she “needed a different audience” for her talents.

Kayleigh, who sang The Lumineers’ Ho Hey on Friday, said: “It was heartbreaking at the time.”

But, she added: “I wouldn’t change the experience for the world.”

Fans took to Twitter to voice their disappointment that Kayleigh had been kicked off the show. And the quietly-spoken singer, whose nerves often threatened to get the better of her, said the public’s response had “shocked” her.

“It’s been really nice to get that support and get people actually believing in you. And that loyalty as well – that they still like you even though you’re not in the competition anymore, which is really nice. I appreciate it all.” Kayleigh is now working as a baker at Tesco, Garforth, after the demands of X-Factor meant she lost her newly-acquired job as a fitness instructor.

But she already has a gig lined up. Fans can catch her supporting Hannah Trigwell and Nick Howard at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on October 10.

She said: “I started doing music and singing when I was about seven and it has always been for me.

“It’s not like if I don’t get famous I must stop.

“I do it for me and if fame and money and all that comes along with, so be it. I’m going to keep doing it and I will gig because I like it.”
