OTLEY’S Olympic cyclist Lizzie Armistead has announced her engagement to Team Sky rider Philip Deignan.

On Monday evening she tweeted a photo of the couple and said: “Last night @PhilipDeignan asked me to be his wife, and I said YES!”

Last month Armistead won the Grand Prix de Plouay-Bretagne to claim the UCI Women’s Road World Cup series title for a second straight year.

The 26-year-old from Otley beat Emma Johansson and world champion Pauline Ferrand Prevot after a late attack to win the French race.
