Why we must not forget about Leeds' human 'shields' - the YEP says

But spare an extra thought for those hidden human shields who are our most clinically vulnerable as we lament the latest lockdown.

Those who are shielding once again will be bearing the brunt of the devastating impact of social isolation.

Disabled and cared for people are among more than two million people being asked to once again limit the time they spend outside their home.

And charities, such as Carers Leeds, who have become a lifeline to so many people during the pandemic say they are braced for more calls from those who are especially vulnerable looking for emotional support.

Many carers have been shielding their loved ones prior to the lockdown.

They are worried for those they are caring for and they don’t want to take any chances.

But we must make sure that we don’t forget those who need and rely on those human shields to protect their lives.
