Why we must hear this Leeds grandmother's warning over anti-semitism after Holocaust Memorial Day, YEP says
“Mankind has not learned from what happened 70 to 80 years ago. They are still targeting people because they are different.”
The haunting words of Leisel Carter say it all.
On the week of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz she spoke to the Yorkshire Evening Post about the very real fear that anti-semitism is on the rise in modern day Britain.
Leeds North East MP Fabian Hamilton, whose constituency has a large Jewish population, warns of a growing sense of frustration in society when it comes to subjects such as equality which could fuel scorn.
Leeds is one of the most diverse cities outside London and is home to over 170 different ethnic groups with over 104 languages spoken.
And that is something that we must be rightly proud of.
So it's vital that we must all take heed of Leisel’s words in a bid to ensure that hatred never divides this city.
