Why social media platforms need to take accountability seriously - the YEP says

That’s the call from the presenter of Leeds United’s television channel Emma Jones as she talks to the Yorkshire Evening Post as part of our Call It Out campaign.

While she tries to not let negative comments bother her, she believes people that say such things, which she brands as “cruel”, because there is often little or no comeback.

She has called on platforms to take control to ensure that identities match up with accounts created in a bid to clamp down on abusive comments made by those hiding behind their keyboards.

She is just the latest voice to add their support to our campaign which is asking readers to help play their part in making social media platforms into a better place for us all by reporting abusive online behaviour.

And calling out those hiding behind the guise of a fake account to throw abuse at others would be a good place to start.
