Businesses across the city have felt the strain – and none more so than our sporting institutions such as Leeds Rhinos.

Stark figures show the club faces total losses of £4m over two years.

In a frank interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post Rhinos’ chief executive Gary Hetherington said all but seven or eight of around 150 Leeds Rhinos’ employees – including players and coaching staff – were furloughed from April 7.

The majority of staff remain on furlough while games are being played behind closed doors.

But at the heart of this difficult time is an incredible gesture from season ticket members to rally around to support their club in its time of greatest need.

More than 80 per cent of those 9,000 who hold season tickets have waived their right to a full rebate – something that has been hugely appreciated by all connected with the club.

And it shows the true strength of our sporting institutions for fans to rally firmly behind them.
