Why Leeds' climate change issues will not disappear into thin air - the YEP says

It came as thousands of school children up and down the country took to the streets demanding action on climate change.

Drastic work was needed to look at how Leeds can tackle the pressing global issue.

But despite this rallying cry, the city’s long-awaited Clean Air Zone has now been put on hold following the coronavirus pandemic.

As more people have been forced to stay inside as a result of the crisis, officials say the air quality has improved to the extent that the Government has suspended its funding while it looks into whether the project is now necessary.

For those who have forked out cash to ensure they were prepared, this will come as a blow.

But what will happen once traffic volumes start to resemble pre-Covid lockdown? Are we then back to square one?

This is an issue that isn’t going to disappear into thin air.
