We need support from the Government to keep our buses running - the YEP says

The importance of buses and their role in society cannot be underestimated.

Not only do they provide a physical link for journeys they connect households to jobs, education and leisure.

Without that connectivity we risk isolating so many from so much in society.

And that is why transport leaders in West Yorkshire are calling on the Government to give them a lifeline to help fund bus journeys.

Taxpayers are paying around £2.5m a month to subsidise bus journeys that are not being made.

The number of services looks set to increase back to pre-Covid levels to help keep us all moving forward this month.

But despite this increase they will be limited to only 50 per cent capacity to aid social distancing.

Loss of revenue will undoubtedly cause a huge problem to keep services sustainable.

And there is a fear that should services become difficult to fund they could ultimately be cut.
