More than 600 people have lost their lives here in Leeds over the last three months – and behind each number is a family in mourning, their grief further compounded as many have been robbed of the chance to say a final and fitting farewell to their loved one.

Tonight candles will be lit across the country to remember those who have lost their lives during the pandemic.Tonight candles will be lit across the country to remember those who have lost their lives during the pandemic.

Today we pay tribute to the people whose lives you have so kindly shared with the Yorkshire Evening Post during this time.

They are the faces of those who mean so much; they are husbands, fathers, brothers, mothers, sisters, wives, daughters, sons and friends and colleagues of so many more.

They will all be in our city’s collective thoughts tonight as we reflect on the anguish and loss we have faced over the last three months.

Now it is for each of us to ensure their candles will never fade and continue to burn brightly in our memories for many years to come.
