The project, which targets the A660 and the A61, aims to get more people on public transport, cycling and walking.

Transport chiefs acknowledge in their report that the need to improve public transport to match the demand is clear.

This is something the Yorkshire Evening Post has long been banging the drum for after we launched our Unlock the Gridlock campaign.

So while this scheme is welcomed - although £9m does feel like a drop in the ocean to truly tackling the city’s transport woes - there are a few bumps in the road that need to be considered.

The main one will be confidence.

For many people they will not have ventured out on public transport since the country went into lockdown.

And even though the schemes are expected to be completed next year there, is still a long journey ahead to ensure that people have the confidence they need to get back on our buses.
