The exclusive announcement will be a significant breakthrough - not only to Leeds and the wider Yorkshire economy - but also to those who travel from the dated site which looks set to be flattened if the bold plans are approved.

Many passengers know only too well the familiar plight of landing at the site and then waiting for a bus to get to the terminal.

It is hoped that the redevelopment will act as a significant catalyst for change to help bring in new jobs, more passengers and new routes to the site.

While the news is a welcome piece in the city’s transport jigsaw the Yorkshire Evening Post hopes that local leaders will be able to match this ambition with a seamless transport network to the new terminal.

There have been many proposals muted over the years to help connect the airport with the rest of the city.

And the most recent travel blueprint could include a “parkway” rail station just over a mile away from the airport, as well as park-and-ride facilities and a bus terminal.

This city needs to think big in order to ensure it doesn't get left behind and connectivity will be the key to unlocking this.
