Marking a moment of NHS history with first Covid vaccines - the YEP says

And during this moment of history and hope, it seems only fitting that nurse practitioner Bridget Kelly, 73, and ward housekeeper Sylvia Harris, 80, were the first in our city to receive the Covid-19 vaccinations.

Yesterday marked the start of what will be the biggest vaccine campaign in the history of the NHS.

Bridget Kelly, is one of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust’s longest serving nurses, having worked for 46 years in A&E, including 21 years on night shifts.

Speaking after receiving her jab, she said: “This means I can get on with my life.

"I can protect my husband, who has just had a kidney transplant, and I think everyone should have it to make us all safe.”

Inevitably, there will be logistical challenges as the programme continues to be rolled out.

But finally it feels like there could be a light at the end of the tunnel and hope in sight for us all.
