Leeds Bradford Airport expansion is flight of fancy – Yorkshire Post Letters

SORRY Hywel Rees, CEO of Leeds Bradford Airport, your letter (The Yorkshire Post, June 29) fails to impress let alone convince.

In these last few months we have experienced:

Greatly improved quality of life from less night-time light pollution, less noise pollution, less jet fuel pollution;

Redevelopment plans for Leeds Bradford Airport continue to divide political and public opinion.Redevelopment plans for Leeds Bradford Airport continue to divide political and public opinion.

BA cutting the daily flights to London which has removed access to a global service;

Redundancies from Jet2, Swissport and others with a reduction in services available;

Discovering the sneaking in of a planning application proposal for disruptive earlier and later flight times.

We can make up our own minds on the future without business investors outside the county taking advantage.

IT seems to me that neither Leeds City Council, Leeds Bradford Airport or West Yorkshire Metro have any idea about the need for a direct rail link to the airport.

A light rail link/tram from Horsforth is essential, the “nonsense idea” of a Parkway Station on the Leeds to Harrogate Line is a waste of time, effort and money.

Sadly the decision makers in the three “bodies” above are totally incapable of thinking “outside the box”.

A very simple example is the Tyne and Wear Metro running from Newcastle Central station direct to Newcastle Airport.

Rail link now please and no more talk of parkway stations/bus transfers to the airport.

From: Tim Emmott, Coppice Drive, Harrogate.

I AM total fan of the proposals to rejuvenate LBA and impressed with the efforts of the CEO, Hywel Rees, to respond to questions and queries. LBA is a dump. It is wrong to say it is third-world. It is worse.

However, my wife and I are thoroughly enjoying the emotive letters from readers objecting to the proposals and we would hope that any decision can be delayed until after the Covid lockdown.

Editor’s note: first and foremost - and rarely have I written down these words with more sincerity - I hope this finds you well.
