The leader of Leeds City Council warned just a few weeks ago that it is set to hit £200m, with a plea to the Government to ensure it doesn’t have to cut services during the current financial year.

Yesterday Rishi Sunak’s £30bn economic stimulus – including an innovative Eat Out To Help Out scheme and a stamp duty holiday – shows just how perilous the financial crisis facing the UK really is.

Closer to home, the impact of the virus continues to ripple across the city.

Indoor traders at Kirkgate Market fear their businesses are at the risk of collapse after being told to fork out backdated rent for when they were closed during lockdown.

Leeds is well known for its resilience and demonstrating true Yorkshire grit.

But that is little consolation as this city continues to try and weather one of its toughest financial storms in an effort to bounce back stronger than before.
