Olympian Sonia gets set to dash through Leeds

Sonia Samuels will getting back into training by joining the field of 12,000 for the fast-paced 10k which will take place on November 6.

Sonia, 37, dreamt of becoming an Olympian from the age of 12 years old and decided to take time out of her job as a languages teacher to make that dream a reality.

This summer it finally came true as she finished 30th in the biggest field ever for the event and after a well-deserved break will be showing her skills on the streets of Leeds.

Sonia, who was also 13th in the London Marathon this year and has done the Abbey Dash once before, said: “It has motivated me to get back into training again. They always put on a good race.”

Participants who sign up to the race, which is backed by the Yorkshire Evening Post, will be raising funds to help Age UK make a crucial difference to the lives of older people.

One in four (2.9 million) people aged 65 and over feel they have no one to go to for help and support.

Age UK wants to combat this by providing companionship, advice and support to people facing later life alone.
