NOT everyone likes TV talent shows but there’s no denying it can shine a light on some truly gifted people.

Leeds’ own Luke Friend – who came third in The X Factor and is known for his trademark dreadlocks – is a prime example.

The 18-year-old singer-songwriter was born and raised in Leeds (Chapel Allerton, to be precise) and has already stepped foot on the biggest stage in the city when he played at the First Direct Arena as part of the X Factor tour last year.

But the singer has now signed a deal with RCA records and revealed to City Buzz he’s keen to return to his home town for a gig in the near future.

“It was very emotional coming back to Leeds for the X Factor tour,” he said.

“I’ll definitely be back. I miss it too much.

“I can’t believe The Cockpit is closed – I would have liked to play there.

“Hopefully I’ll play in Leeds soon – we’re in the early stages of putting something together in the next couple of months.”

Keep your eyes peeled for Luke’s return, but in the meantime, check out his debut (and self-penned) single ‘Hole in My Heart’, which is out on March 30.
