Robert Smythe, 54, and Tony Dudley, 40, would disguise themselves in high-visibility work wear and carry window cleaning equipment while they targeted office buildings.
They even had a “token” bucket of dirty water and squeegee in the back of their van. Police used DNA, CCTV images and number plate recognition to link the pair to 23 separate burglaries between June and October 2015 across London. Between them, the total reported value of the items they stole, such as IT equipment, was more than £70,000 and the damage they caused was more than £30,000. The duo, from east London, were jailed for conspiracy to commit burglary at Southwark Crown Court today, Monday 11 January, after pleading guilty at a previous hearing.
